It’s fall y’all. Last week, we had the official first day of the fall season.

Now, living in south Louisiana, our weather doesn’t exactly acknowledge the fall season like we do. Even though the leaves may not change color and the temperature may not drop, we still like to embrace the fall season.

One way we like to do this is by decorating our house. We buy pumpkins at the grocery store, we pull out our fall candles, and we start looking for ways to make our home festive and cozy!

Here are 5 simple ways to decorate for fall this year!

  1. Embrace plaid. Throw a plaid blanket over a front porch swing or rocking chair. Put a plaid table running down your dining room table. Pull out the plaid place mats or put some plaid throw pillows on your couches. A simple touch of plaid will cozy up your home in seconds!
  2. Add a fall wreath to your front door. Wreaths are generally known for being green, however, nowadays you can make a wreath out of just about anything and for just about any occasion. Have fun with a fall wreath made of twigs, plaid fabric, artificial orange leaves, etc. The sky’s the limit!
  3. Don’t be afraid of red.Red is such a bold, fun and festive color. What’s great about choosing to use a pop of color is that you can do that in many different ways: a throw rug, fun plates, a front door, a mailbox, throw pillows, a wall color, a bowl of apples on your dining room table. It can be as simple or complex as you want to make it depending on how much time you have to put into it.
  4. Have fun with pumpkins. Without going overboard, just adding a few pumpkins around the house gives your home a great festive feel. What’s great is that there is a lot of variety with pumpkins. Add a few large carved ones to your doorstep. Hollow one out, and insert a bowl inside to fill with candy. Put a small bowl on your coffee table filled with tiny pumpkins, indian corn and gourds.

Not only is decorating our homes for the current season exciting and fun, but it allows our home to be comforting and inviting to those who enter.
